What is dosserdom? The land of the Mighty Dossers, an ancient nickname for Motherwell Football Club, long before the term 'dossers' took on any secondary meaning. It actually refers to sleeping, to take a quick nap was to 'go for a doss' and the origins of the nickname are claimed to come from fans on the terraces lamenting their teams lacklustre performance one day, claiming their team were 'playing like a bunch of dossers' i.e still half asleep. Another explanation is that it refers to nightshift works at the old steelworks who would go for a quick doss to enable them to stay awake in time for the game later that day. The term has been kept alive by the fanzine One Step Beyond where my background lies. I was editor of the fanzine from 1994 and progressed onto writing books, still on the subject of Motherwell and my experiences following them throughout the years. And so I find myself here, 20 years on, 100 issues of OSB, 7 books bearing my name and numerous credits in various publications, TV & radio appearances aplenty. It's been a journey right enough, no' too bad for a wee guy fae North Motherwell.
